Park
Programs:
KYDS receives funding from the Los Angeles County Department
of Children and Family Services, Family Support Program, to provide
team sports at local parks in the San Fernando Valley, where there
is a high level of gang activity. Softball, soccer, flag, football,
street hockey, dance, handball, volleyball, and basketball are offered
to children and youth. In addition to league play, KYDS offers intra-park
tournaments, cultural events, and guest speakers from the community.
Program participants receive uniforms/jerseys, equipment, trophies,
and bi-weekly pizza parties.

- Safe Activities Friday Night Events:
LAPD, KYDS, Recreation and Parks, and the 11th District Council
Office sponsor a night of sports for at-risk youth followed by
a light meal or snack and a social or educational event. LAPD
officers are on hand to coach the youth and talk informally about
their experiences. The season ends with a spirited all-star game
between the youth, KYDS' staff, and LAPD officers. The level of
communication and respect built between these groups has been
outstanding.
