KYDS Academy Volunteers
Volunteer tutors enhance and enrich the lives of children by assisting them with their homework and helping them excel in certain subjects where they need extra help. Working under the supervision of KYDS staff, volunteers provide valuable support and assistance. Volunteers become an extension of the KYDS Tutoring program, not a substitute for staff responsibilities. Volunteer jobs within the KYDS tutoring program are specific. Volunteer tutors must be able help children with their homework and provide special attention to their education needs. KYDS prefers college students or retired teachers who are proficient in Math, Writing, Computers or other professional skills. Volunteers, through their efforts, increase the KYDS staff’s ability to provide the best possible assistance to help children succeed academically.
KYDS Volunteer Tutors must be:
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to tutor for 2 hours weekly a semester
- English proficient
- Able to provide own transportation to literacy service site
- Willing to abide by the program policies and code of conduct
- Willing to participate in a volunteer orientation
- Willing to be fingerprinted and pass a DOJ background check
As a volunteer it is your responsibility to:
- Accept a job position that is worthwhile, challenging and suitable to your skills and ability.
- Fulfill your commitment by reporting on time and completing your shift.
- In cases of emergency or illness notify your supervisor early enough that a substitute can be found if needed.
- Use time wisely and do not interfere with the performance of others.
- Dress appropriately and be well groomed.
- Be considerate, respect the competencies of others and work with the staff and other volunteers.
- Sign in and out and accurately record the total hours you have worked in the volunteer log.
- Adhere to KYDS' rules and procedures.
- Notify the Volunteer Coordinator if you plan to terminate your duties as a volunteer.
- Be attentive to students and their educational needs, have a positive attitude, encourage students, promote a college education and show enthusiasm.
- Perform the duties that have been assigned to you to the best of your abilities.
